I hope this will be the only post on Rod Blagoyevich, the idiot of Illinois. It has been obvious for some time that he can't play Chicago politics:

Selling off a Senate seat is not new to American politics; there was even one Senator-wannabe who trailed around the Legislature in question (which was -er- Illinois) handing out thousand dollar bills. When the Senate heard about it, as of course they did - one of the recipients squealed - they expelled him. One of the reasons the Seventeenth amendment was ratified, and Legislatures don't pick 'em any more.

But this was so dumb. He discussed illegal business on his office phone while he knew he was under investigation. He conducted an auction, which have left four Illinois pols unhappy and one feeling overcharged; what are the odds that this was going to turn out well. Dumbest of all, he turned down an offer of "appreciation" from a future Senator and close adviser of the President Elect, because there wasn't any cash value in it. Even for an Alderman's son in law, this is dumb.

But then, the alderman had been doing the politics until Blagojevich became Governor and stomped on one of his deals. Not dancing with the guy that brought you - that's dumb. If you're Woodrow Wilson, running as the clean candidate for Governor of New Jersey, it's a cost.. If you're the son-in-law of a machine pol, who's won as Mr. Clean because there's nothing in your record, (while the Other Party has an incumbent governor bound for jail, and a candidate with the same last name(!)), well, that just leaves you up the crick/

Now, however, thanks to Andrew Sullivan,  we have an answer. Back in 1980, before he got to marry the alderman's daughter, he went and camped outside a celebrity's home until the celebrity came out, signed an autograph, and had a picture taken.

Was it Bo Derek? No. Was it John Lennon? No.

It was Not a Crook.
